FIDAMC is a Research Center created in 2006 by the Spanish Ministry of Industry, the Regional Government of Madrid and the Airbus Group, focused on the research, development and potential uses of composite materials. The entity is mainly addressed to aerospace activities but widely open to other sectors, having carried out projects in the railway, wind energy and automotive areas. FIDAMC facilities are placed in Getafe, with an area of about 1500 m2 for offices and about 4000 m2 for laboratories and workshop.  FIDAMC is mainly focused on the improvement of technologies already known and the analysis, test and demonstration of emerging technologies and the selection of the optimal ways to use those technologies in specific products.

IMDEA Materials (Madrid Institute for Advanced Studies of Materials) is a non-profit, independent research institute, promoted by the Regional Government de Madrid (Spain) to carry out research in Materials Science and Engineering. IMDEA Materials Institute is committed to excellence in research by attracting talent from all over the world and to foster technology transfer to the industrial sector in a truly international environment. More information about the activities of the Institute can be found at http://www.materials.imdea.org.

FIDAMC & IMDEA Materials Institute are looking for a:

PhD candidate (Ref: FORMING-01)

(MEng in Mechanical Engineering, Materials)

The PhD candidate will participate on the project SIMUFORM, a joint project in collaboration between FIDAMC and IMDEA Materials Institute in the field of the development of simulation tools to analyze thermoforming of prepregs for aircraft structures manufacturing. The candidate will enroll on a PhD program offered by the Technical University of Madrid, and the PhD project will be focused on the development of the experimental characterization methods to measure interply friction behavior in prepregs during thermoforming as well as the corresponding simulation tools for defect generation prediction during manufacturing.

Requirements: Candidates should hold a MEng in Materials, Mechanical Engineering, or other related discipline with strong background on solid mechanics and materials. Fluent English (oral and written) is mandatory. Previous experience in finite element modeling and experimental methods will be very valuable.

Starting date: 2016 Fall. The vacancy will be closed as soon as we find the right candidate.

Application: Interested candidates should submit their Curriculum Vitae including the complete contact information through the institute’s website http://www.materials.imdea.org/open-positions/applicationform?ref=DYNA-RA01
