Analysis of delamination evolution under compression in thin laminates. ICCS20


ICCS20, “20th International Conference on Composite Structures”, took place from 4th to 7th September at National Conservatory of Arts and Crafts in Paris (France). Some of the most important topics were: composite structures, impact, delamination and damage, joints, optimization or multiscale analysis, among others.

 

Marina Remacha, aeronautical engineer of Fidamc, gave a presentation on "Analysis of delamination evolution under compression in thin laminates". In this work, compression tests with artificial delamination were performed, and numerical models were used to improve the understanding of the behaviour of damage progression. These simulations were validated by conducting a sensitivity analysis of the main parameters and thanks to the good correlation obtained with the experimental results. Furthermore, the influence of the test device on the results was evaluated and the correct evolution of delamination was verified when the tests were carried out with the developed device in a previous work (Remacha et al., Composite Structures, 2015).
