Response of electroless copper coated CFRP laminates to emulated lightning strikes

The research line in lightning strike protection of composites in FIDAMC has led to the publication of the work “Response of electroless copper coated CFRP laminates to emulated lightning strikes” in the journal Composites Part A: Applied Science and Manufacturing. This work was conducted in collaboration with Polytechnique Montréal and Carlos III University. In the paper, our researcher Sergio de Juan published the results of lightning strike emulation tests on ATL-manufactured carbon-fiber/epoxy parts protected with thin layers of copper deposited by chemical means. The tests showed that this easily implementable solution can provide with efficient protection against the lightning strike, which is a big concern in the aeronautic field. The article will be freely available for 50 days in the following link: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1359835X2030422X.
