Fidamc, an R&D and training center dedicated to the research, development and application of innovative technologies in the design and manufacture of composite structures, has celebrated the symbolic laying of the first stone of its new technology building, a key step in its strategy of growth and capacity building in the aerospace sector.

The new facility, which will cover more than 500 square meters, will be built just behind Fidamc's main building in Getafe. It will be destined to increase the productive and technological capacity of Fidamc and ENSIA EXPERT (TESTIA), a 100% Airbus Group company, focused on the structural integrity of components and aircraft, with the aim of responding to the growing demand for new technological needs in the aerospace field.

Manufacture of composite structures

Fidamc is an industrial research center of national and international reference, specialized in the development of advanced technologies for the manufacture of composite material structures, with applications mainly in the aeronautical sector, although it also works in other sectors, such as the naval and automotive industries. It works closely with companies, technology centers and public institutions to promote innovation, sustainability and competitiveness in the industry.

The event was attended by numerous authorities and institutional and industry representatives, including: Ernesto González, CEO of Fidamc; Sara Hernández, Mayor of Getafe; Ricardo Rojas, President of Commercial Aircraft of Airbus Spain; Elisabeth Melo, Councilwoman of Economic Development; Roberto Fernández, Councilman of Employment; Juan Manuel Hernández, Manager of GISA; Cruz Gútiez, Manager of the Training and Employment Area of Getafe; Félix Domínguez, Deputy Director and Head of Engineering at Fidamc; Pedro Serrano, Managing Director of ENSIA EXPERT; Eduardo Ramírez, President of the Getafe Aerospace Network (GAN) cluster; and José María García, partner at INGENOVUM, the project's construction company.

Technological sovereignty of the Spanish aerospace industry

"This project is a commitment to the future. Not only are we expanding our facilities, but we are also reinforcing our commitment to innovation, employment and the technological sovereignty of the Spanish aerospace industry," said Ernesto González, CEO of Fidamc.

Pedro Serrano, Managing Director of ENSIA EXPERT, also commented on what this expansion means for his company. "This new hall will allow us to expand our testing and certification capabilities, while reinforcing the technological synergy with Fidamc. It is a strategic step to meet the challenges of the new air mobility and to consolidate our presence in the European innovation ecosystem."

The mayoress of Getafe, Sara Hernández, underlined the local impact of the project:

"From the Getafe City Council we are clear, there is no sustainable economic development without investment in knowledge. That is why we strongly support initiatives like this, which place our city at the center of industrial innovation in Europe".

This new warehouse, which will be operational in September 2025, will not only allow to address new industry challenges, but also to strengthen Getafe's position as a strategic node in the Spanish aerospace sector.

"From Airbus we strongly support this initiative. It is a clear example of how collaboration between industry, technology centers and administrations makes it possible to move towards a more competitive sector that is prepared for future challenges," added Ricardo Rojas, President of Commercial Aircraft at Airbus Spain.

Fidamc expects this expansion to boost the growth of its workforce, consolidate new technological collaborations and maintain its role as a key innovation and development center in Europe.
