Elena Congost, elite Paralympic athlete, has shared with us her experience, values and lessons learned during her sporting career on the occasion of her recent sponsorship agreement with Fidamc. Her story is a testimony of self-improvement, perseverance and passion for sport.

Elena competes in the visually impaired category and has been a key figure in inclusive sport. During the last Paralympic Games in Paris, she had a moment that reflects her great humanity and sense of teamwork. Close to the finish line and in position to win the bronze medal, her guide began to experience cramps, putting her physical integrity at risk. Instead of moving alone towards victory, Elena prioritised the well-being of her partner, slowing down and releasing the rope that bound them together. Although this decision led to her disqualification, she demonstrated values that go beyond a medal.

Elena told us how her sponsorship agreement with Fidamc came about, highlighting that the organisation was the first to contact her after the last Paralympic Games, at a time when she was still coming to terms with what had happened. ‘They were the first to contact me after everything that happened and for that, I can only have words of thanks’. For her, the values she shares with Fidamc, such as self-improvement, teamwork and the ambition to grow, are the basis of both sport and success in any professional field.

Speaking about her experience at the Paralympic Games, Elena reflected on the importance of accepting the unexpected. ‘Sometimes, no matter how much you are at your best and think you have everything under control, there are things external to you that you can't control and that will make you recalculate your route again,’ she said. However, he has learned to see this situation with perspective, understanding that sometimes life takes a different path and that it is essential to move forward with enthusiasm and effort.

Don't be afraid to fail

As for the advice she would give to those seeking to achieve their dreams, Elena emphasised the need to overcome fear. ‘Many times fear paralyses us. Or out of fear we don't try things because we think they will go wrong. So, don't be afraid to try, don't be afraid to fail, don't be afraid to fall a thousand times and continue’, she said. Her recommendation is not to be afraid to fail or fall, but to learn from each experience and move forward with determination. For her, constant work is the key to success, because in both victory and failure there is valuable learning.

Finally, he spoke to us about his daily routine at competition time, describing it as intense and exhausting. ‘It's a lot of training, a lot of exhaustion. That's when the discipline has to come out the most, because there are times when the motivation isn't there,’ he explained. Training requires a lot of physical and mental effort, especially when motivation wanes. In addition, reconciling her sporting career with raising four young children, she has learned to accept help from family and friends. Her preparation includes not only training and rest, but also physiotherapy and proper nutrition. ‘Sometimes shopping seems psychologically impossible,’ she confessed. For her, organising herself and allowing herself to be supported by those around her are key to continuing to perform at the highest level.

Elena Congost's testimony is a source of inspiration for all those who seek to overcome their own limits. Her story reminds us that effort and passion are the engines that drive us to achieve our dreams.
